Iñigo Alonso, Deputy Team Leader of Formula Student Bizkaia, had many things to say about their program:
We build both ICE and electric vehicles. FSBizkaia consists mainly of a group of students from the School of Engineering of Bilbao, that belongs to the Basque Country University and some additional students from other faculties.
The team was created in 2006 as an innovative project of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. After two years of preparation and research, in 2008 the first prototype was completed and in 2009, with vast improvements in design, the second car saw the light. In 2010, the third vehicle was manufactured squeezing everything learned in order to try to do well in the dynamic tests of the competition.
Evolving on this design, the new car made in 2011 gave a qualitative leap by participating in two competitions, adding Formula Student Spain, held at the Circuit de Catalunya, to the classic event held at Silverstone and getting the fourth place at Montmeló, ranking the best position that Spanish team has ever achieved in the competition.
For 2012, the leap is even greater, since the team will compete with two completely new cars: an internal combustion engine following the tradition of past seasons and an innovative electric-powered car.
